Qarib Qarib Singlle!! – My flash review
Posted on 11th November, 2017
A story of 2 middle aged nearing past by date singles in an “Autograph” meets “Jab we met” narrative. With just a handful of characters in the entire film and with the lead pair in almost every frame, the most crucial elements are the casting of the lead pair and the writing. Director Tanuja Chandra on a comeback trail, gets both these bang on. For the male lead Irfan who is as usual brilliant, this is walk in the park. He keeps us in splits with his facial expressions and immaculate dialogue delivery. But the surprise package for me is the female lead – Parvathy an import from Malayalam cinema. She makes a confident debut in bollywood in this film. She’s at ease in the role and gives Irfan a good fight in terms of performance. She can be the next Vidya Balan in Hindi films if she makes the right choices and gets lucky with talented film makers. I’m not sure who’s done the dialogues but the writing is outstanding and is clearly the high point in the film.
The premise of the film is bit outlandish and also frivolous. The end is a bit contrived without much of drama. Nevertheless can be excused as something different than the usual bollywood fare.
Being a road movie, the film does a bit of Incredible India promotion covering Uttarakhand, Rajastan & Sikkim!
Overall an interesting film and a good one time watch.
